مُطاوع قطَعَ/ قطَعَ بـ : انْفَصل بعضُه عن بعضٍ

احتبس ولم ينزل

🇬🇧 Translation:

It stopped and did not fall.

جفَّ وحُبس.

🇬🇧 Translation:

It dried up and was withheld.

خلا الطّريق من المارّة? انقطعت رِجْلُه عن بيتنا : كفّ عن المجيء إلينا.

🇬🇧 Translation:

The road was empty of passersby ? His visits to our house stopped: he stopped coming to us.

توقَّف

🇬🇧 Translation:

Stopped.

• انْقطع لسانُه : ذهبت سلاطتُه أو سكت
• انْقطع نَفَسُهُ : أصابه الإرهاقُ.

🇬🇧 Translation:

• His tongue was silenced or he fell silent
• He ran out of breath: he became exhausted.

انكبّ عليه، واظب عليه، تفرّغ له

🇬🇧 Translation:

To be devoted to it, persevere in it, dedicate oneself to it.

انْقطع إلى أستاذه : انفرد بصحبة خاصّة معه، لَازَمَهُ.

🇬🇧 Translation:

He devoted himself to his teacher: kept his exclusive company, stayed close to him.

تركه وأعرض عنه

🇬🇧 Translation:

To abandon it and turn away from it.
