(فز) طبقة من غاز الأكسجين ثلاثيّ الذَّرّات، تحيط بالأرض على ارتفاعات عالية منها، وهو أنشط كيميائيًّا من الأكسجين العاديّ، يحمي الكائنات الحيّة على الأرض من مخاطر الأشعّة فوق البنفسجيّة المنبعثة من الشَّمس، ويستعمل أيضًا في تعقيم الهواء ومياه الشُّرب.

(Physics) Ozone; a layer of triatomic oxygen gas surrounding the earth at high altitudes. It is chemically more active than ordinary oxygen, protects living organisms on earth from the dangers of ultraviolet rays emitted by the sun, and is also used in sterilizing air and drinking water.
