(حي) بَكْتيريا، كائنات مجهرية ذات خليّة واحدة، شكلها مستطيل كالعُصيّة أو مكوّر أو لولبيّ، تعيش في جميع أجواء البيئة من ماء وتربة وهواء ومواد عضوية حيّة وغير حيَّة، تتكاثر بالانقسام إلى شطرَيْن : جرثومة، وميكروب بعضها مُفيد، والبعض الآخر ضارّ.

(Bio) bacteria, single-celled microscopic organisms, rod-shaped like a bacillus, spherical, or spiral, living in all environmental atmospheres of water, soil, air, and living and non-living organic matter, reproducing by binary fission: germ and microbe, some of which are beneficial and others harmful.
