(حي) بَكْتِريا، كائنات مجهرية ذات خليّة واحدة، شكلها مستطيل كالعُصيّة أو مكوّر أو لولبيّ، تعيش في جميع أجواء البيئة من ماء وتربة وهواء ومواد عضوية حيّة وغير حيَّة، تتكاثر بالانقسام إلى شطرَيْن : جرثومة، وميكروب، بعضها مُفيد والبعض الآخر ضارّ.

(Bio) bacteria, microscopic single-celled organisms, rod-shaped like a bacillus, spherical, or spiral, living in all environmental atmospheres of water, soil, air, and living and non-living organic matter, reproducing by splitting into two: a germ and a microbe, some beneficial and others harmful.
