بَرْبَر

The Berbers; a people with their own language, mostly mountain-dwelling tribes in North Africa. They embraced Islam and participated in the conquest of Andalusia under the leadership of one of their own, Tariq ibn Ziyad. They intermingled with Arabs, giving rise to dynasties such as the Aghlabids, Almoravids, and Almohads. Another group of Berbers resides between the Abyssinians and the Zanj on the coast of the Zanj Sea and the Sea of Yemen.
