ثَبَتٌ بمحتويات الكتاب، أو موضوعاته التفصيليّة وأسماء الأعلام ونحو ذلك ممّا ورد في الكتاب يرتَّب ألفبائيًّا أو بنظام آخر معَيَّن، يُشار فيه إلى أرقام الصفحات التي وردت فيها تلك الموضوعات والأسماء، ويقع في أوّل الكتاب أو آخره

A register of the contents of a book, its detailed subjects, proper names, and the like, arranged alphabetically or in a specific system, indicating the page numbers where those subjects and names appear, located at the beginning or end of the book.
