آلة لِصَفِّ أحرف الطِّباعة بسكبها أسطرًا كاملة، لها ملامس الآلة الكاتبة، تسقط قوالب نحاسيّة حفرت فيها الأحرف فإذا تمّ السطر عَبّأت مضخَّةٌ آليَّة فراغاته معدنًا مصهورًا وصار جاهزًا للطبع.
