قِرْدان

(حن) طائر يتغذّى على الحشرات، منقاره طويل مُنحنٍ لأسفل مثل المنجل الذي يستعمله الفلاح، تبلغ أنواعه خمسة وعشرين نوعًا، معظمها طيور خوَّاضة تمدّ مناقيرها المنحنية في الماء الضحل والمستنقعات وفي الأرض الطينيّة الرطبة لتبحث عن الأسماك والحشرات والديدان.

(Zoology) Cattle egret; an insect-eating bird with a long bill curved downward like a farmer's sickle. Its species reach twenty-five, mostly wading birds that extend their curved bills into shallow water, swamps, and damp muddy soil to search for fish, insects, and worms.
