- Drank the cup to the dregs: endured what is hard and painful to the end, left nothing in it, got drunk and lost consciousness
- Drank what was thrown at him: understood it
- Drank to his health: took a drink to celebrate someone's presence, or out of love for him (To drink/Metaphorical uses).
