ج ثَعالِبُ، مؤ ثعْلبة : (حن) حيوان وحشيّ من الفصيلة الكلبية ورتبة اللواحم، أصغر حجمًا من الذئب، يأكل ما استطاع إليه سبيلاً من حيوان أو طير أو حشرات أو ثمار سُكَّريَّة، يُضرب به المثل في المكر والحيلة والرَّوغان

pl. ثَعالِبُ, fem. ثعْلبة: (Zoology) A wild animal belonging to the canine family and order Carnivora, smaller in size than a wolf, eating whatever it can find of animals, birds, insects, or sugary fruits, proverbial for cunning, trickery, and elusiveness.
