(Zoology) Bat; a genus of mammals from the bat family, order Chiroptera, native to temperate lands, one-quarter the normal size, resembling a mouse, with small round eyes covered by eyelashes and soft fur, frequenting houses, grottoes, and caves, living in groups, flying at night and feeding on insects or fruit, generally beneficial because it devours pests and insects.
