(نح) اسم من الأسماء الخمسة يرفع بالواو وينصب بالألف ويجرّ بالياء وذلك بشروط، وهي أن يكون مفردًا ومُكبَّرًا، وأن يكون مضافًا لغير ياء المتكلّم فإذا خالف شرطًا واحدًا من هذه الشروط فإنّه يُعرب بالحركات باستثناء إذا جاء مثنًّى فإنّه يُعرب إعراب المثنّى بالألف رفعًا وبالياء نصبًا وجرًّا، وتستعمل كلمة أب في الكُنَى وبعض الأسماء
🇬🇧 Translation:
(Grammar) One of the five nouns (al-asma' al-khamsah) which is marked with waw in the nominative case, alif in the accusative case, and ya' in the genitive case under specific conditions: it must be singular (mufrad), in its augmentative/base form (mukabbar), and added (mudhaf) to anything other than the first-person singular pronoun (ya' al-mutakallim). If it violates any of these conditions, it is declined with short vowels, except when dual, in which case it follows the dual declension (alif for nominative, ya' for accusative and genitive). The word 'ab' is used in kunyas (patronymics) and certain proper nouns.

  • Bi abi anta (By my father you are ransomed): an expression of devotion
  • La aba laka / La ab laka (No father for you): an expression used for hyperbole in praise because he relies in his life on himself rather than his father
  • Lillahi abuka (To God belongs your father / How great is what you do): an expression of admiration
  • Huwa ibnu abihi (He is his father's son): he resembles his father.

One of the leaders of disbelief; the epithet of Abdul Uzza bin Abdul Muttalib, the paternal uncle of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, who was intensely hostile to him. Surah Al-Masad was revealed concerning him and his wife.
