عُصْفور في اليدّ خير من ألفٍ على الشَّجرة [مَثَل] : القناعة بالقليل الذي حَصَلْتَ عليه خير من الكثير الذي لا تضمن تحصيله.

حسابَ له ألفَ حساب (to give something a thousand considerations): To pay close attention to it and be extremely cautious
سكَت ألفًا ونطَق خَلْفًا [proverb] (to remain silent for a thousand [moments] and speak wrongly): Said of someone who stays silent for a long time then speaks with an error
عُصْفور في اليدّ خير من ألفٍ على الشَّجرة [proverb] (a bird in the hand is worth a thousand on the tree): Contentment with the little you have attained is better than a lot whose attainment you cannot guarantee.
