ج دُفُوف : (سق) آلة للطَّرب، مُسْتديرة لها جلد مَشدودٌ يُنْقر عليه

Plural: دُفُوف : (Music) An instrument of entertainment, circular with a stretched skin that is tapped on (tambourine/daf).

" وأصوات الرِّياح بكلِّ فَجٍّ … أحبُّ إليَّ من نقر الدُّفوف
فَصْل مَا بَينَ الْحَرَامِ وَالْحَلَالِ الصَّوْتُ والدُّفّ [حديث] : والمراد به إعلان الزواج وإشهاره "

And the sounds of the winds in every path ... are dearer to me than the tapping of tambourines
'The distinction between the unlawful and the lawful is the voice and the daf' [Hadith]: The intended meaning is to announce and publicize the marriage.
