حرَقَ يَحرُق ويحرِق، حَرْقًا، فهو حارِق وحَريق، والمفعول مَحْروق وحريق

حكَّ بعضَها ببعض حتَّى سُمع لها صريفٌ

To cause a stinging pain.

جعل النَّارَ تؤثِّر فيه أثرَها المعهود

To cause fire to exert its usual effect on it.

• لفحته وأثّرت فيه
• حرق قلبَه : أثّر فيه وأجَّجه كالنار
• حرَق مراكبَه : قطع خطّ الرُّجوع.

🇬🇧 Translation:

• To scorch and affect
• Burned his heart: affected and inflamed it like fire
• Burned his ships: cut off all retreat, burned his bridges.
