حرف ناسخ مشبه بالفعل من أخوات إنّ، ينصب الاسم ويرفَعُ الخبرَ ويفيد التوقُّع والترجِّي في الأمر المحبوب، والإشفاق من المكروه، وقد تحذف لامُه فيصير علَّ، ويمكن اقتران لعلّ بنون الوقاية، وإذا دخلت عليها (ما) كفَّتها عن العمل
🇬🇧 Translation:
A ناسخ (modifying) particle resembling verbs, akin to 'inna, which makes the subject accusative (mansoub) and the predicate nominative (marfoo'). It expresses expectation and hope regarding a beloved matter, and apprehension regarding a disliked matter. Its lam may be dropped, becoming 'alla. It can be attached with the nun of protection (nuqat al-wiqayah), and if the particle 'ma' is suffixed to it, it prevents it from governing.

  • Perhaps victory is near
  • Study perhaps you will succeed
  • {And what will make you perceive? Perhaps the Hour is near}"
