حرف نفي يجزم المضارع، ويقلبه إلى ماضٍ ممتدٍّ حتّى وقت الحديث مع توقّع حدوثه في المستقبل القريب

A particle of negation and jussive that governs the imperfect verb, turning its meaning into a past tense extending up to the time of speech with the expectation of its occurrence in the near future
ظرف زمان مختصّ بالماضي يقتضي جملتين وُجدت ثانيتهما عند وجود أولاهما بمعنى حين أو حينما

An adverb of time specific to the past requiring two clauses where the second occurs upon the existence of the first, meaning 'when' or 'as'
حرف استثناء بمعنى (إلَاّ) يدخل على الجملة الاسميّة، ويستعمل في القسم؛ فيدخل على الجملة الفعلية

An exception particle meaning (except) which enters nominal sentences, and is used in oaths; and enters verbal sentences
