قطَعَ/ قطَعَ بـ يَقطَع، قَطْعًا، فهو قاطع، والمفعول مَقْطوع وقطيع

جزَّه، فرقه، فصل بعضَه عن بعض

He cut it, separated it, detached parts of it from each other.

• قطَع رأسَه : أزاله عن جسده
• قطَع عضوًا : بتره.

🇬🇧 Translation:

• He plucked it
• He cut off his head: removed it from his body
• He amputated a limb.

أبطلها لكلامٍ وغيره

🇬🇧 Translation:

He invalidated it due to speaking or something else.

أخاف المارّة فيه بالتّلصّص، سلب ونهب العابرين والمسافرين

🇬🇧 Translation:

To frighten passersby by waylaying, robbing and plundering travelers.

منع المرورَ فيه

🇬🇧 Translation:

To block traffic.

• منعه من تنفيذ ما يريد تنفيذه
• قطَع رزقَه/ قطَع عيشَه : منع عنه أسباب العيش، طرده من الوظيفة
• قطَع عليه حبلَ تفكيره : منعه من متابعة تفكيره، حال دون تسلسل أفكاره، شوّش عليه
• قطَع عليه خطّ الرَّجعة : سدّ عليه المسالك، منعه من فرصة التَّراجع
• قطَع عليه كُلَّ حيلة : لم يترك له أيّ مجال للتّصرّف.

• To prevent him from carrying out what he wants to do
• He cut off his livelihood: deprived him of means of living, fired him from his job
• He broke his train of thought: prevented him from continuing his thoughts, disrupted his flow of thoughts
• He cut off his retreat: blocked all paths, prevented him from any chance of backing down
• He left him no recourse: left him no room for action.

اجتازه، عبره

🇬🇧 Translation:

To cross, traverse.

أنجز/ أحرز تقدّمًا كبيرًا.

🇬🇧 Translation:

To accomplish/ make significant progress.

هجرها، عقّها، منع كُلَّ اتّصال بها

🇬🇧 Translation:

To sever ties of kinship, disobey them, cut off all connection with them.

قطَع شعرةَ معاوية : قطَع صلتَه به.

🇬🇧 Translation:

He severed Muawiyah's hair (idiom): Severed his relationship completely with him.

• سكت? بثٌّ إذاعيّ مقطوع/ بثٌّ تليفزيونيّ مقطوع : انقطاع غير مقصود في البثّ يختفي الصوتُ خلاله
• قطَع فلانًا بالحُجَّة : غلبه وأسكته فلم يُجِبْ
• قطَع لسانَه : أسكته.

• He stopped speaking ? Cut radio broadcast/cut television broadcast: An unintentional interruption in broadcast where sound disappears
• He silenced so-and-so with argument: defeated and silenced him so he could not answer
• He cut his tongue: silenced him.

اشتراها.

🇬🇧 Translation:

He bought it.

اجتنى ثمرَها.

🇬🇧 Translation:

He harvested its fruit.

أهلكه، استأصله، أفناه

🇬🇧 Translation:

To destroy them, eradicate them completely, exterminate them.

أبرمه، تعهّد، التزم

🇬🇧 Translation:

To make a pact, promise, commit.

قطعت جهيزةُ قولَ كلِّ خطيب [مثل] : ظهر الحقُّ.

🇬🇧 Translation:

Juhaizah cut short the speech of every orator [proverb]: The truth has become apparent.

قنَط، يئِس.

🇬🇧 Translation:

To despair, lose hope.

كفّ عن التّنفّس

🇬🇧 Translation:

To stop breathing.

بتّ فيه، حسَم وفصَل? قطَع في القول : جزم، أخذ فيه بثقة.

🇬🇧 Translation:

To decide it, resolve and settle it ? To be definitive in speech: to be certain and confident in it.
