ج أَرانِبُ وأَرانٍ : (حن) حيوان ثَدْيِيٌّ صغير؛ من الفصيلة الأرنبيّة ورتبة القوارض طويل الأذنين قصير الذيل، يداه أقصر من رجليه، يُؤكل لحمُه، يغطي جسمه فرو ناعم، وهو كثير التوالد سريع الجري، ومنها البرِّيّ والداجن، يضرب به المثل في الجبن، يطلق على الذكر والأنثى، وقد يقال أرنبة للذكر والأنثى كذلك

Pl. arānib and arānin: (Zoology) A small mammal; of the hare/rabbit family (Leporidae) and order Rodentia, with long ears, a short tail, front legs shorter than hind legs, its meat is edible, covered in soft fur, highly prolific and fast-running, including wild and domestic types, used as a proverb for cowardice, applied to both male and female.
