(حن) جنس حيوانات بحريّة مفترسة من الرَّخويات الرَّأسيَّات الأرجل المزدوجات الخيشوم، فيه أنواع تعيش على شواطئ البحار المعتدلة الحرارة والحارّة، يتغذّى على الأسماك، ويقذف بسائل أسود اللّون عند إحساسه بالخطر، فيُعكِّر الماء حوله ويتمكّن من الهرب (والشائع فتح الحاء) .

(Zoology) Squid, a genus of carnivorous marine animals belonging to cephalopod mollusks with dibranchiate gills. There are species living in temperate and warm seas, feeding on fish, and ejecting a black fluid when sensing danger to muddy the water around it and escape (pronouncing the 'ha' with a fatḥah is more common).
