(سف) طريقة في المناقشة والاستدلال، وهي ذات صور مختلفة منها انتقال الذِّهن من قضيّة ونقيضها إلى قضيّة ناتجة عنها ثم متابعة ذلك حتَّى الوصول إلى المطلق، وهو عند مناطقة المسلمين قياس مؤلَّف من مشهورات ومسلَّمات والغرض منه هو إلزام الخصم وإفحام من هو قاصر عن إدراك مقدّمات البرهان

(Philosophy) A method of discussion and reasoning taking various forms, including the transition of the mind from a proposition and its negation to a resulting proposition, continuing until reaching the absolute. According to Muslim logicians, it is a syllogism composed of widely accepted and conceded premises, intended to compel the opponent and silence those incapable of grasping demonstrative premises.
