سمَّته الأفعى ونحوُها: أصابته بسُمِّها.

سمَّتِ السَّمُومُ النَّباتَ: أصابته بحرِّها، أو أحرقته.

The hot wind (samum) damaged the plant: affected it with its heat, or scorched it.
سمَّ الإبرةَ ونحوَها: جعل لها سَمًّا، أي ثُقبًا.

To make an eye in a needle or similar: to make a hole (eye) in it.
