ج مَوَاوِيلُ : (دب، فن) فن جديد من الفنون الشعريّة المستحدثة التي ظهرت بين الطبقات الشعبيّة في بلاد المشرق الإسلاميّ في إطار التجديد والتطوير في نظام القصيدة العربيّة الموروثة من حيث وحدة قافيتها، طلبًا للسهولة والسيرورة بين عامّة الناس تأليفا وغناءً وسماعًا، ويغنّى الموّال عادة في صحبة ناي أو ربابة.

Pl. mawāwīl: (lit., art) a new genre of modern poetic arts that emerged among the common classes in the lands of the Islamic East as part of the renewal and development of the traditional Arab qasidah system in terms of rhyme unity, seeking ease and prevalence among the general public in composition, singing, and listening. The mawwāl is usually sung to the accompaniment of a nay or rabab.
