فعلٌ ماضٍ جامد من أخوات (كاد) يكون للتّرجِّي في الأمر المحبوب، ويكون للإشفاق في الأمر المكروه، وقد يتَّصل به ضمير رفع متحرِّك، فيجوز حينذاك كسر السِّين وفتحها، والفتح هو الأشهر، وقد تدلّ على الوجوب كما في القرآن الكريم كُلِّه، يدخل على الجملة الاسميّة فيعمل عمل كان، بشرط أن يكون خبرها جملة فعليّة فعلها مضارع مسبوق بـ (أن)

It may be attached to a mobile nominative pronoun, in which case the letter 'sin' can take either a kasrah or a fatha, with fatha being the most common. It may also indicate obligation as used throughout the Holy Qur'an. It enters a nominal sentence and acts like (Kana), on the condition that its predicate is a verbal sentence whose present tense verb is preceded by (an)

ذاكر عَسَى اللهُ أن يأخذ بيدك
{عَسَى رَبُّكُمْ أَنْ يُهْلِكَ عَدُوَّكُمْ} "
