Feminine form of the passive participle of allaqa / allaqa ala.
- حدائق منشأة على شكل مدرجات أو سطوح مرفوعة عن الأرض، حدائقُ غنَّاء اشتهرت بها مدينة بابل واعتُبرت إحدى عجائب الدنيا السّبع
- كلّ شاة برجلها معلَّقة : كلّ إنسان محاسب على فعله، لا أحد يغني عن أحد.

- Gardens built in the form of terraces or raised platforms, lush gardens for which the city of Babylon was famous and considered one of the Seven Wonders of the World
- "Every sheep is hung by its own leg": every human is accountable for their own deeds, no one can substitute for another.
واحدة المعلَّقات، وهي سبع أو عشر من أشهر قصائد الشِّعر الجاهلي
